Headquartered in California, National Semiconductor was a leading developer of analog power management technology. It produced a wide range of power management products, including easy-to-use integrated circuits, PowerWise™ products that improve system energy efficiency, and SolarMagic™ products that increase the power generation of solar systems. The company combined analog and digital technologies and focused on semiconductor products based on analog technology, including independent components and subsystems in the fields of power management, imaging technology, display drivers, audio and operational amplifiers, interface products, and data conversion solutions. Its network interface chips were widely used in the 1990s and became a de facto standard for Ethernet technology. Notably, its products were known for wide-ranging temperature characteristics, making them suitable for industrial, outdoor, and other harsh environments. In 2001, it was the first in the industry to launch a gigabit network controller chip. In April 2011, it was acquired by Texas Instruments.
