It is one of the largest commercial suppliers of military and aerospace semiconductor equipment in the United States, and is also a top supplier of FPGA devices for the US defense industry. It has outstanding and unique chip manufacturing process technology in high-reliability applications. FPGA electronic devices in the US aerospace market are predominantly supplied by Microsemi. In the military industry, early competitors included Xilinx and Altera. In March 2018, Microsemi was acquired by Microchip and became its wholly-owned subsidiary.
