Adafruit Industries, LLC, founded in 2005 by MIT engineer Limor "Ladyada" Fried, aims to create the best online platform for learning electronics and designing innovative products for makers of all ages. Over the past 15 years, Adafruit has grown to 100+ employees and expanded its offerings to include tools, equipment, and electronics. A 100% woman-owned company, Adafruit is a certified Minority and Woman-owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) and a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE). Adafruit’s engineering team, led by Limor, develops community-driven products like the Adafruit Feather and the Circuit Playground Express, an educational board supporting MakeCode, CircuitPython, and Arduino. In 2017, Adafruit introduced CircuitPython, a simplified coding language for low-cost microcontrollers. Their Crickit Creative Robotics Kit enables interactive construction and robot-building. Manufacturing a majority of its products in its NYC factory, Adafruit designs and assembles PCBs, tests, and ships products in a matter of weeks. In 2024, Adafruit relocated to Industry City in Brooklyn, NY.
